Speaker: Roberto Piassi Passos Bodo
Date and time: Monday, May 7, 2012 - 12:00
Place: Room 267-A at IME/USP
Abstract:

In these DAFx talks, the main concepts in the field of audio effects processing will be presented. In this talk, will be presented some algorithms for signal processing in the time domain. These algorithms will change, basically, the pitch and duration of the audio signal. Will be presented methods for variable speed replay, time stretching and pitch shifting.

Speaker: Santiago Dávila Benavides
Date and time: Monday, April 23, 2012 - 12:00
Place: Room 267-A, at IME/USP
Abstract:

In these DAFX talks, the main concepts in the field of audio effects processing will be presented. In this talk, we will present fundamentals of spatial hearing and basic techniques for spatial digital audio effects, such as stereo imaging, panning, HRTF filters, reverb, effects due to distance and Doppler effects.

Speaker: Marcio Masaki Tomiyoshi
Date and time: Monday, April 16, 2012 - 12:00
Place: Room 267-A, at IME/USP
Abstract:

In these DAFx talks, the main concepts in the field of audio effects processing will be presented. In this talk we will present models of nonlinear processing and several types of effects created with this model like compressors, limiters, noise gate, de-esser, valve simulators, distortion, overdrive, fuzz, harmonic and subharmonic generation, tape saturation, exciters and enhancers.

Speaker: Gilmar Rocha de Oliveira Dias
Date and time: Monday, April 9, 2012 - 12:00
Place: Room 267-A, at IME/USP
Abstract:

In these DAFx talks, the main concepts in the field of audio effects processing will be presented. In the third talk of the series, basic modulation techniques will be presented by introducing simple schemes for amplitude modulation, single-side-band modulation and phase modulation with its use in audio effects. Following, will be seen the demodulators, which extract parameters of the incoming signal for further effects processing. The combination of these techniques lead to more advanced audio effects, which will be demonstrated by several examples.

Speaker: Flávio Luiz Schiavoni
Date and time: Monday, March 26, 2012 - 12:00
Place: Room 267-A, IME/USP
Abstract:

In these DAFX talks, the main concepts in the field of audio effects processing will be presented. In this second talk fundamental tools for filter design will be introduced, both for frequency-response-based designs and for filter based on delayed copies of the input signal. Some specific filter designs will be discussed, such as equalizers, well-known effects like wah-wah and phaser, FIR and IIR comb filters for reverb and delay-based filters including like vibrato, flanger and chorus.
