Past talks

Speaker: Thilo Koch, PhD student at IME/USP
Date and time: Monday, August 18, 2014 - 12:00
Place: CCSL Auditorium, IME/USP
Abstract:

How does binaural listening work? What benefits does it introduce over monaural listening? Which cues are used to localize sound sources in the 3-dimensional space?

This seminar will present some answers for these questions, which the current (psycho) acoustic science offers. Furthermore models for the human auditory system and their applications will be introduced.

Keywords: binaural listening, sound localization, binaural modeling

Speaker: Jônatas Manzolli, head of NICS/UNICAMP and full professor at IA/UNICAMP
Date and time: Thursday, August 7, 2014 - 14:00
Place: CCSL Auditorium, IME/USP
Abstract:

This talk explores the convergence between concepts developed around contemporary music and formulations that emerged in our research based on models from computational neuroscience. We start by pointing out that musical composition evolved from the use of symbolic notation to the writing of the internal organization of sound. This may be observed in expanded instrumental techniques and in more recent strategies using new interfaces for musical expression. The possibility of operating on the dynamics of the internal organization of sound material in real time adds new dimensions to musical information, and thus introduces new possibilities in the application of computational models as a support for musical analysis and creation. In tandem with these ideas, we will present concepts expressed in the paper “Computational Modeling of Mind and Music” (Vershure & Manzolli, 2013) and a set of system-compositions that we developed recently.

Place: CCSL Auditorium, IME/USP
Abstract:

This seminar will be a practical workshop to Pure Data externals development. Procedures to develop an external in C will be presented starting with code examples previously available on the handout. It will be presented the basic external structure, the parameters passing, hot and cold inlets, outlets and DSP. The audience must have installed on their computer gcc, make and Pure Data.

Speaker: Antonio Goulart
Date and time: Tuesday, June 3, 2014 - 14:00
Place: CCSL Auditorium, IME/USP

Speaker: Gianfranco Ceccolini, André Coutinho and Luís Henrique Fagundes
Date and time: Tuesday, May 27, 2014 - 14:00
Place: CCSL Auditorium, IME/USP
